We didn’t see it coming, but Jude Law isn’t the only famous actor in the cast of the series Skeleton Crew.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew knows how to manage its surprise effects. After three rather enjoyable episodes, within a license that is now struggling to delight us, the creation of Chris Ford and Jon Watts stands out a little more as the production not to be missed at the end of 2024. It must be said that the newness of the catalog cultivates its singularity and does not multiply the mentions of past events of the galaxy far, far away.
A Breath of Fresh Air
In addition to a gallery of endearing characters, Skeleton Crew benefits from a breath of fresh air blowing on the license. Between nostalgia and renewal, the adventures of Fern and her team are not lacking in interest. While the mystery surrounding Attin thickens, a new planet has been shown to the spectators. It is home to new characters, and one of them risks making people talk. Warning: The article contains information on episode 4 of Skeleton Crew.
A Surprise Appearance by Mathieu Kassovitz
We didn’t expect him in this register, but Mathieu Kassovitz seems to have been seduced by the idea of a little detour through the Star Wars saga. This is not the first time that the French director and actor has collaborated with an American studio, even if success has not always been there. In the early 2000s, he went behind the camera in collaboration with Warner Bros. for Gothika before hatching a Franco-American-British science fiction blockbuster: Babylon AD. Two years later, the filmmaker invited himself to Spielberg’s for Munich (2005). Since then, he has divided his time between France, Great Britain, and the United States.
He was on the bill for Lui, directed by Guillaume Canet in 2021, and should soon appear in front of Terrence Malick’s camera for his highly anticipated The Way of the Wind. However, we never imagined him accompanying young adventurers to the confines of the galaxy imagined by George Lucas at the end of the ’70s.
General Strix: A New Character
In the fourth episode of the Skeleton Crew series, Kassovitz plays a certain General Strix. He is the leader of a faction on the planet At Achrann: the Troiks. This is a completely new character in the lore who does not draw his inspiration from novels, comics, or other non-canon productions. The series takes advantage of its freedom from the Skywalker saga to build its story. Strix is thus used to mirror the parents of our heroes, who live in a utopia where peace and quiet reign supreme.
Exploring Themes of Violence and Peace
The episode also revolves around the meeting between the adorable Neel and the merciless Hayna. Quite cleverly, the story questions how we can break the cycle of violence, from which children inherit the traumas and resentments of their elders. Hayna could, once she becomes an adult, glimpse a new, more peaceful world where altruism has its place. And then, for his part, Neel was able to gain a little courage and save his friends from certain death. These little heroes are becoming more and more endearing.
It remains to be seen whether the series will land on its feet as the conclusion approaches. We hope so. It is unlikely that Kassovitz will return to the forefront, however, as the main characters are moving ever closer to their goal and must leave the planet quickly.
Broadcast Information
As a reminder, Skeleton Crew is currently broadcast on Disney+. Four episodes are available, and the next one will arrive next Wednesday on the American platform. The series is already halfway through, and there are still four episodes to discover.
